Scholarships for young innovators
Scholarships have long been an important and exciting initiative at MindFuel and our partners. Scholarships are an investment in the future of Alberta and Canada. They are meant to address challenges facing our country: shortage of knowledge workers focused on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), and the ongoing need to build a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.
APPLICATIONS FOR 2022 ARE NOW CLOSED!

Are you a trailblazer? Do you zag where others zig? If you answered ‘yes’ to these questions, this is the scholarship opportunity for you! You’re not performative, but you’re tuned in and have a vision. You understand the world in a broad way: you’re a mentor, and you impart your wisdom and give your patience to those around you, in hopes they will understand how to unlock their best potential. Do you tinker and ponder, adapt and innovate, mentor and influence. Are you technical and mathematical, a “details mean everything” thinker, connected to the ‘big picture’, a believer in quality over quantity, and a taker of sensible risks? If so, then this is for you.
This scholarship is offered in the name of Stan Weber, whose life and whose professional and personal attainments were cut sadly short in January of 2022. In a career arc that took him from the oil patch to Chevron, to ATCO and beyond, Stan never stopped tinkering and pondering, adapting and innovating, mentoring and influencing. He was a hard-headed optimist and a calculated risk-taker. Stan Weber always pushed up against the boundaries of what was possible and doable, in the name of furthering his understanding of the world he inhabited.
Students must:
- Be graduating from an AB, SK or MB high school.
- Be registered in an undergraduate program at an accredited Canadian university or college
- Be a Canadian citizen or have permanent-residence status
- Exhibit passion for STEM. Preference given to students who can expressly explain how this passion for STEM and their education will form their vision to change the world.
- Demonstrate the visionary, leadership, mentoring, and influencer qualities of Stanley Weber as described in the paragraph above through various means and activities such as volunteer work, community service, developmental clubs or programs, etc.
- Provide a written essay (max 500 words): while the student might not have the highest GPA, we want to hear about your vision to change the world – what have you done for your community? What do you plan to do?
- Email complete submission to: scholarships@develop.mindfuel.ca using this subject line: Stanley Dana Weber Memorial Scholarship application
- Deadline: midnight on July 31, 2022
Creative Destruction Lab - Rockies (CDL-Rockies) Opportunities Scholarship
Annual scholarship of up to $2,500, one award
Eligibility: Grade 12 students graduating from an Alberta, Saskatchewan or Manitoba high school, who identify as women, two-spirit, transgender and non-binary. Click for more...
The purpose of the CDL-Rockies Opportunities Scholarship is to make a positive contribution toward ending the gender gap in STEM, while encouraging our best and brightest to explore opportunities that exist within the prairies. Women represent 51% of the population yet continue to be underrepresented in technical studies, careers and women-led startups. Only 3% of all venture capital is deployed to women. Our aspiration is that through increased access to STEM education for innovative women-identified individuals within the Prairies, we will increase the likelihood of those individuals continuing in STEM-related careers within those communities.
- Eligibility: Grade 12 students graduating from an Alberta, Saskatchewan or Manitoba high school, who identify themselves as women, two-spirit, transgender and non-binary
- Students must be entering their first year in an undergraduate STEM-related (science, technology, engineering or math) program at an accredited post-secondary institution located in Alberta, Saskatchewan or Manitoba.
- Annual scholarship of up to $2,500 awarded to one recipient, as follows: $1,000 awarded for first year post-secondary education; $1,500 for second year, provided the recipient has maintained an 80% grade average throughout their first year.
- Email to: scholarships@develop.mindfuel.ca using this subject line: CDL-Rockies scholarship application
- Deadline: midnight on July 31, 2022
